Marilyn J. Praisner
Award for Leadership in Local Government Communications Policy

This award honors Marilyn Praisner's significant contributions to the field of public safety communications and her commitment to clear and effective governance.  Annual awardees are selected from a pool of local (county or municipality) officials who are currently serving (or have served within the past five years) on the local governing body (e.g., county commission, city council, township board) who have demonstrated leadership in public safety communications governance at the local level, and who have worked to bring about interoperability through policy measures and coordination. Vetted through criteria established and managed jointly by APCO and NACo, the award will be presented at APCO’s Annual Leadership in Public Policy Awards Dinner on May 18, 2010.

 

Eligibility:
Municipal or county elected officials
Applications for the Praisner Award must include:
• A cover page that includes the nominee’s name, telephone number and addresses, email address, a brief profile of the nominee’s local jurisdiction, and a brief biography.  Specifically identify the nominee’s public position and service on a local governing body.
• A proposal (not more than 3 pages, double-spaced, 12-point font) that includes an introduction and rationale for the nomination and the specific contribution to the field of public safety communications, to include the positive impact derived from that contribution.  Please include specifics, such as (but not limited to):
      • Contributions to governance of interoperable communications
      • Demonstrated leadership in achieving cooperation among multiple disciplines to support interoperable communications
      • Achieving multijurisdiction/regional governance agreements
      • Service on regional and/or statewide Interoperable Communications Governance Body (may be known as an SIEC)
        with specific   contributions contributing to better statewide communications
      • Contributions to regional/statewide communications interoperability plans (SCIPs) with demonstrated results.
      • Service on national, multi-state, or statewide interoperable communications committees with specific contributions to 
        building stronger governance structures for interoperable communications.
